Chinese New Year Celebrations
We’re not monkeying around when we say there’s an exciting schedule of events lined up to welcome in the Chinese New Year!
Bundaberg Regional Council is getting ready to celebrate the Year of the Monkey at the Chinese New Year Celebrations with the main celebrations set to be held in Bundaberg’s CBD on Saturday, February 13.
Between 3pm and 9pm food and market stalls will line Bourbong Street between Maryborough and Barolin Streets and there will be lots of activities that all the family can enjoy
The Moncrieff Entertainment Centre will host an impressive lineup of traditional Chinese performers direct from our sister city Nanning who will keep the crowd enthralled with various performances including some amazing acrobatics.
This entertainment will complement performances offered by local talent including the PCYC Blazers Lion and Dragon Dancers, Tai Chi performances, Martial arts, Taekwon-do and even Japanese Taiko Drumming.
This entertainment program will be featured at the Moncrieff Entertainment Centre over two sessions, between 3.30pm and 5pm and 6pm and 7.30pm with FREE entry.
A range of free kids’ activities will be on offer including face painting, jianzi Chinese featherball workshops and an interactive Chinese animal zodiac trail where children will learn about the mythology of the Zodiac animals and be rewarded with a gift when completed!
The fun will continue after dark with a luminous lantern parade at 8pm followed by a unique fireworks display.
For $5, children can take part in a lantern-making workshop and join in on the lantern parade to display their very own lantern!
In the lead up to this celebration, residents can take part in supporting events including Chinese Food discovery tours and 'A Taste of China' evening at the Moncrieff Entertainment Centre where you immerse yourself in Chinese food and entertainment followed by a free movie.
